I’ve been thinking of things our kids won’t get to experience. 8 tracks, Atari – Pong, "rolling" down a car window, turning the dial on the t.v. to get one of three stations, fountain pens, record players, rotary phones, or as my friend said, phones on the wall. Here’s a direct quote from her, "Hard to believe our moms got anything done stuck to the wall all day!" And I’m thinking, and when they did, they were smoking in the house. For that matter they were smoking in the grocery store, banks, and at their desk at work? Heaven.
My buddy then brought me to one of her favorites, sayings from the past. Get off your soapbox, it’s a hard row to hoe, you sound like a broken record, you’re not the Lone Ranger.
I can’t wait to hear my kids tell someone, "You’re so 2010." Or dress up days in high school won’t be 50’s Day, they'llbe ’00 Day. Maybe they’ll reminisce about CROCS or Rock Band, or blogging for that matter.
P.S. Today is the last day of school. For me as a sub and for my children, as students. I’m always a little weepy and sentimental on these days. I just closed my Barbie (hand me down) lunch box for the last time this year and seriously almost teared up.
Also, another thought. Every night Annie, my youngest, prays for good dreams. Today in the car on the way to school I had everyone bow their heads and pray for my jeans to make it through one more day. There’s a tear in the inner thigh area and I didn’t want to hear anyone say, " I see London, I see France, I see Ms. Vickery’s ……."
